Personal History/Background

Amy is originally from Danforth, Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2012 with a degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Science. After finishing her bachelor’s degree, she completed a master’s program at the University of Illinois that focused on amphibian diversity within temporal wetlands. Amy has worked all across the country including Oregon, Idaho, Texas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois and Kansas collecting data on a wide range of taxa. Through seasonal positions with the US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, Amy got to experience field work in the mountains doing northern spotted owl surveying in southwest Oregon and sage grouse habitat assessments in southwest Idaho. Most recently, Amy assisted US Fish and Wildlife Service biologists in sampling Indiana bat populations throughout eastern Missouri.

While Amy enjoys scientific research, her main passion is education. Before joining the Extension, Amy worked as the Natural Resource Coordinator (Lead Interpreter) for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources at Fort Massac State Park in Metropolis, Illinois. Through this position, Amy’s skills in program development and outreach grew, as did her enjoyment of teaching both adults and children. As the Natural Resources Agent, she hopes to connect with the community and pass on her love of the natural world.
