A national money expert's website references a survey of 2,000 taxpayers. The survey found that people who work with a tax expert to file their income tax return got an average of $840 more back in their refund than the average self-filer. Or put another way, on average paid $840 less in income taxes.

Perhaps this year you’re considering abandoning the DIY method of income tax preparation. Maybe you’ve been thinking about finding a new tax professional or must replace your tax professional who retired last year. If so, choosing a tax professional is a serious decision. You might ask friends or people you trust for recommendations. Take time to contact and interview two to three candidates.
