4-H Ambassadors

The Johnson County 4-H Ambassadors Program is looking for 4-H'ers who are passionate about 4-H and would love to promote the program to other youth in the county! Ambassadors plan countywide events such as a Leadership Camp and Game Night, plan fundraisers, attend community events, and plan and run the annual Barnyard Olympics event at the Johnson County Fair. A Johnson County 4-H Ambassador is a dedicated and enthusiastic youth leader who serves as a representative of the 4-H organization. Ambassadors typically have a strong understanding of 4-H values, programs, opportunities, and actively engage in promoting and advocating 4-H in their communities. Ambassadors must be able to commit 4-6 hours each month to help promote 4-H in Johnson County. The application process and interviews typically occur in November for the following year.

4-H Ambassador responsibilities include:

  • Promotion
  • Mentorship
  • Public speaking
  • Community service
  • Teamwork
  • Leadership development
  • Advocacy

Why should a 4-H’er become an Ambassador?

  • Builds public speaking and leadership skills
  • Community outreach and involvement
  • Meet new people and make new friends
  • Learn how to plan and lead events and activities
  • Gain experience in fundraising

Our Ambassadors meet the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the Extension office from 6:30-8 p.m. Applications are accepted for 4-H'ers ages 14-18 years old (by January 1 of the current 4-H year). Our Ambassadors serve for a one year commitment. They will have the option to re-apply each year following. In addition new Ambassadors are required to attend the Kansas State 4-H Ambassador training at Rock Springs Camp in Junction City in February.
