Know Your Credit Score

Return to Home and Family Agent Articles

Most people know credit scores range from 300 to 850, and that the higher the number, the better the credit rating. But many people don’t know how credit scores are developed. Did you know that you can have more than one credit score? Or that your scores can change over time?

Credit scores are based on how you have used and managed credit over time. That information is compiled into your credit report. It’s actually more important to know what information is in your credit report than to have your credit score. You are encouraged to obtain and review your credit report periodically at www.annualcreditreport.com or by calling toll free 1-877-322-8228.

Learn more about credit reports, credit scores, and managing your credit in the Know Your Credit publication I wrote, that was recently published by K-State Research and Extension http://bookstore.ksre.k-state.edu/pubs/MF3081.pdf
